World Globes
Some things are better understood after they’re put in perspective, aren’t they?
During a time period when discussions of a flat Earth were commonplace, a German navigator named
Martin Behaim created the earliest known globe that astonishingly still survives to this day! The globe
promoted a strong visual accuracy and could easily be used in navigation and cartography…unlike the
older and more primitive maps that were drawn in sections on flat pieces of parchment or animal skin.
Its introduction to the realm of naval navigation, education, and cartography allowed for a massive leap
in the overall understandings and beliefs of how the Earth is shaped.
