Navy Aviation Air Warfare Specialist Badge

The Aviation Air Warfare Specialist Badge is awarded to U.S. Navy personnel who have met the qualifications for the badge. The badge signifies that the wearer has completed the necessary training and qualifications to perform duties as an aviation warfare specialist. The Aviation Air Warfare Specialist Badge was first authorized by the Chief of Naval Operations on 18 October 1963. It is awarded in three degrees: Basic, Senior, and Master. The requirements for each degree are different, and must be met before progressing to the next degree. To be eligible for the Basic Aviation Air Warfare Specialist Badge, personnel must complete a specified number of flight hours, as well as successfully completing other training requirements. To be eligible for the Senior Aviation Air Warfare Specialist Badge, personnel must have completed a specified number of flight hours, as well as held a position of increased responsibility for a certain period of time. To be eligible for the Master Aviation Air Warfare Specialist Badge, personnel must have completed a specified number of flight hours, as well as held a position of increased responsibility for a certain period of time. The Aviation Air Warfare Specialist Badge is awarded to personnel who meet the eligibility requirements and who are recommended by their commanding officer. It is worn on the left uniform pocket, above all other badges. Badge Description: The Aviation Air Warfare Specialist Badge is a gold badge that consists of an eagle in front of a shield. In the eagle’s claws are three arrows. Above the eagle is a laurel wreath and a five-pointed star. The words “Aviation” and “Air Warfare Specialist” are written on the scroll at the bottom of the badge. Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for the Aviation Air Warfare Specialist Badge, personnel must have completed a prescribed course of study and training in aviation warfare. They must also have served in a position that required the performance of duties related to aviation warfare. Badge Variations: The Aviation Air Warfare Specialist Badge is issued in three grades: Basic, Senior, and Master. The badge is worn as a temporary sew-on badge while personnel are completing the required training. Once the training is completed, personnel are eligible to receive the permanent wear version of the badge. The Aviation Air Warfare Specialist Badge is authorized for wear by officers and enlisted personnel of the US Navy and Marine Corps. It is also authorized for wear by members of the US Coast Guard who serve in a billet that requires the performance of aviation warfare duties. must also have been designated as an Aviation Warfare Systems Operator or equivalent. Recommendation: Personnel who are eligible for the Aviation Air Warfare Specialist Badge are recommended by their commanding officer.
