Elk

The elk, or wapiti, is one of the largest examples of the animals that make up the deer family, and it is one of the largest mammals in North America. Males can normally weigh anywhere from 700 to 750 lbs, and females can weigh anywhere from 500 to 550 lbs! Unfortunately, elks are often mistaken for moose, but that’s an understandable error. When it comes to climate preferences, elk love the cold and are more active in lower temperatures. Interestingly enough, newborn elk are kept hidden for several days after they’re born and they initially have no scent and are covered in white spots that help hide them from predators.
