Skeleton Chief
In Native American culture, one doesn’t actually die. Instead, you “walk on”, “begin the next journey”, or “hunt with the great chiefs”. This belief system is unique because of the teachings that death is not the end, but rather a transition phase or a prologue to the individual’s story. Typically native Americans would bury their dead in ritualistic ways by wrapping them in silks or blankets, depositing personal items into the grave, and then either burying the body or walling it in with stones. If the ground was frozen, then they would bury their dead above ground instead.
