Senior Balloon Pilot Wings

These badges were primarily issued during the first and second World Wars. These badges/wings were awarded to individuals who bravely piloted observations balloons. These balloons were used as early forms of intelligence gathering aircraft. They were essential for artillery spotting and mapping out a battlefield for troop movements.
